1/30 The first year students had finally completed the creation of their posters and finalized their manuscripts and were therefore able to give their first group presentations to their peers in the classrooms. This was a great experience in preparation for the final poster session which will be conducted on February 13th.
Each team of 4 to 6 students had to give their presentation in 5-7 minutes followed by a 2 to 3 minute question and answer session.
The topics of each presentation covered local issues in the Toyoake area such as the increasing numbers of elderly people and foreign residents which both need special attention such as improved diets, exercise regimes targeted at the elderly and language courses and games to help people without a good grasp of Japanese to easily integrate into life in Japan and more specifically in Toyoake. Other issues taken into consideration were shut-in/reclusive people, barrier-free areas, helping the deaf, and trying to lower the average of people in Toyoake by using various ways to attract young families to the area. Each team offered valuable insights into each issue and offered varying strategies as to how to combat each one with a number of different approaches.
